9 Steps for Doing a Beautiful Manicure in the Comfort of Your Own Home

As women, we take on the world everyday. Between work, kids, household tasks, and everything else, a visit to the salon may not be an option. Sometimes, the finances might not allow for a bit of pampering. The good news is, we have 9 easy steps to help you do your own manicure. No need for the salon, you can do it yourself.

Remove nail polish. If you have nail polish on, remove it thoroughly with nail polish remover and some cotton wool.

Clip, file, and buff. If needed, clip your nails. File them square, round, or in-between depending on your preference. Buff the tops and sides of your nails by using a nail buffer.

Cuticle care. Push back your cuticles with a cuticle stick. You can soften them with oils. Cuticles protect your nails from bacteria.

Exfoliate. Remove dead skin cells from your hands, wrists, and forearms by use an exfoliating hand scrub. Once dead cells are gone, your skin can be better moisturized.

Moisturize. The nails are neat and the dead cells are gone. This is the perfect time to moisturize your hands. If you apply moisturizer later, you might smudge the nail polish.

Base coat. Apply the base coat of your nail polish. This coat protects your nails from chipping and helps to hydrate them. Leave the base coat for 2 minutes before applying the next one.

Color coat 1. Apply the first coat of color nail polish. Make sure you cover the nail all the way from the cuticle and in the corners. If your first coat covers the nail well, the second coat is easier to apply.

Color coat 2. Wait at least two minutes before applying the second coat. If you feel the color requires it, add a third coat after waiting another two minutes.

Topcoat. The topcoat is very important to stop the nail polish from chipping. It also gives them a nice shine.

Clean up. Clean up the cuticles by using a Q-tip or cotton ball wrapped around the cuticle stick. Dip it in nail polish remover and carefully clear away mistakes or wobbles.

Now you have beautiful nails and you didn’t even have to leave your home. Make it a fun experience and use your favorite colors.
